Artificial Insemination

As well as natural service, we can also offer A.I. for mares on site and send semen from our stallions across the UK/Ireland and other EU countries.

Our resident vet Bearl Equine Clinic offer a very good AI package - please contact us for details.

At Glenwood we have a padded crush for AI and scanning it has an enclosed foal area in front, which is helpful when scanning mares with foals at foot, so the mare and foal are not separated and kept safe, which is less stressful for both.

Mares can be inseminated with semen from bigger / smaller stallions
No danger from covering for stallion, mare or handler
Semen is checked for quality and quantity
Mares are scanned and inseminated at the optimum time for conception
If you are too far away to travel your mare (and perhaps foal)
If your mare frets away from home
If you vet advises you not to cover naturally for whatever reason
Minimal risk of infection

There is an onsite laboratory for analysing and evaluating semen either taken from onsite stallions or imported in from other studs, so we can understand whether the semen is of good enough quality prior to insemination.

The Glenwood Stud owner / manager is a qualified AI technician approved by Department For Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), after consultation with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

The AITA main objectives are
