Keep Calm & Carry On...... Foal Watch 2018

March 27, 2018

Well, the snow might have only just melted here at Glenwood, but we are currently on foal watch, more precisely, “mare in foal watch”. The stud season has started quite quickly this year, as we already have two mares on camera and another about to arrive.

Not just that, we have the upcoming Northern Stallion Showcase run by Equine Magazine to look forward to next month.

So much has happened since we last released some news! Including, Abergavenny Welsh Comet, who is currently expanding his ridden knowledge up in the South Ayrshire with Zoe M Nicoll whom herself was the Reserve Champion Scottish Rider in 2017 & Champion 2016. In addition to Abergavenny Welsh Comets’ stud Facebook page, he now has a ‘just for fun’ page which is being run by Zoe, so you keep up to date with his progress.

Zoe M Nicoll & Abergavenny Welsh went to the NPS Sparket Show at Newton Rigg Equestrian Centre on Sunday. We all had a fantastic day & we were thrilled with them being placed 1st & Champion. Comet also went into his first ever Ridden Class, we were thrilled with the way he went; he just needs to learn to stand still while the others show off.

To top off a fabulous weekend off, Abergavenny Welsh Comet is a pin up boy for TopSpec on their Facebook page ( Topspec said “we often get asked how to get a super shiny coat especially at this time of year. Abergavenny Welsh Comet illustrates how feeding a TopSpec regime gives you #TopSpecShine Well done to everyone at Glenwood Stallions - great start to the season”

Well done to Vanessa Wark & her Wise Guy R youngster Promise, who was unfortunately orphaned as a foal, but she is truly a fighter, and has done her birth and foster mothers proud! She is following in her father’s hoof steps with her first trip to Bobbis Camp at Somerford. They rode in every season throughout the day including snow! Vanessa described Promise as “brilliant! Her temperament is amazing; she takes everything in her stride, & a pleasure to do anything with. So looking forward to see what the future brings for her!”

In other news huge congratulations to Claire McNay & her Wise Guy R youngster Ghillie together they won the Cumbria Horse Trials Arena Eventing Individual Accumulator 2018!

All our stallion stud cards are available to download from our stud page on our website, and we are busy taking bookings for natural and AI coverings. If you are unsure about which stallion to choose or you wish to learn more about what we do here at Glenwood, please get in touch with our Stud Manager Mr Rob Williams who will be happy to discuss your mare with you. Glenwood Stud has a fully equipped AI laboratory and Mr Williams (Stud Manager) is a fully qualified, experienced and approved AI technician.

We will keep you updated on competition, progeny news & of course as “mare in foal watch 2018” progresses.
